Get Involved

Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to join our team? There are many ways to get involved.
Here are a few of the main roles:

Camp Counselor

Royal Family camp counselors are assigned no more than 2 campers to love on and encourage during our week of camp. Camp counselors get at least 3 breaks during each day of camp. This role requires 12 hours of training for
new staff.

Camp Staff

There are many roles that staff members fill. The staff may help in the kitchen, decorate or organize a big activity, help in the “craft” tent, or sit around the pool deck to help be extra eyes for the lifeguard. Staff can come and go through the week or they can commit to spending the entire week. There are staff who need training and those who do not require it. Typically, those who spend the night at camp attend training so that they can help with bedtime relief. Staff members who are new and want to spend time with the campers, need 12 hours of training.

Kitchen Staff

We prepare all of our own meals at camp to save money. We are always looking for helpers in the kitchen.

Event Volunteers

These volunteers just help out at our big events like the “Everybody’s Birthday Party” or Spa Day! No training is required, and special visitor badges are worn while on campus.

Everybody’s Birthday Party 2024

Would you like to sponsor a birthday gift for our campers? We have created a birthday wishlist through Amazon. You can make this purchase anytime before July 2024 and it will be shipped to our camp director to be distributed to our gift-wrapping team. All gifts are tax deductible. Thank you in advance for your help!

More Information:

  • All new volunteers who plan to be “all in” (2 deepers) and spend time with our campers must have 12 hours of training each

  • All returning staff wishing to be “all in” volunteers must have 8 hours of training

  • Ideally, we’d like to have everyone attend the full in-person training, but For the Children requires that each “2-deep” team member have at least 4 hours of face to face training. If necessary, some can be done online

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kathy Heebner, director of RFK, Chapter # 204, by calling 717-328-2080.

Sound good? Here’s what your commitment would look like….

  • RFK Camp is a week long commitment (Sunday - Friday)

  • Our camp week begins on Sunday morning at 9:30 with our meet and greet and then our commissioning service at 10:30

  • The service is followed by lunch for all volunteers and family members who wish to help with set up

  • Then, we head to camp for set up and final plans

  • The commitment ends with our Friday "WELCOME HOME DINNER" for each volunteer and their family members.  Dinner starts at 5pm and is usually over around 7pm

If I decide to help, what will it involve?

  • 12 hours of training

  • Three background clearances which we pay for: criminal, child abuse, FBI fingerprinting

  • Participate in an interview prior to camp.
